Biography

Mike Houck made history in 1985 as the first American to win a Greco-Roman Wrestling World Championship, breaking through a decades-long Soviet stronghold in the sport. A ten-year veteran of the U.S. National Team, Mike went on to serve as the National Greco-Roman Coach from 1990 to 1995, shaping a new generation of champions.

After his career on the mat, Mike found a new calling in the classroom, where he spent 25 years teaching and mentoring middle school students. Now retired from education, he continues to reflect on defining moments of his journey-drawing strength and purpose from his Christian faith and sharing his story for the glory of God.

Mike lives in Victoria, Minnesota with his wife, Bonnie.

“And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.” – 2 Corinthians 12:9
